- Poll body says its law department is investigating the controversial photos
- Spokesman encourages filing of a formal complaint to help the investigation
- He also says it’s too soon to jump to conclusions, hence, the probe
MANILA, Philippines – Following the spread of photographs showing her alighting from a chopper bearing the presidential seal, Kris Aquino will be subjected to a probe by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to see if any election laws were violated.
According to Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, the poll body’s law department has already started studying the photographs. He also encouraged the filing of a formal complaint to help them in their investigation.
“There should be a complaint. That would be very helpful, but at the same time kami dito sa Comelec dahil pinag-aaralan na namin [we at the Comelec are also studying it], but better ultimately kung may [if there is a] complainant,” he told GMA News.
At the same time, Jimenez said it is too early for the Comelec to make any decision on the matter since they have to do a thorough investigation first.
“Hindi natin alam kung bakit nandoon si [We don’t know what’s the reason for the presence of] Kris Aquino, bakit siya kasama, hindi natin alam kung sino ‘yung nasa [why she went there, we also don’t know who was part of the] entourage ng President or even the itinerary, so these are the things we have to look into before making a decision,” he said.
“Hindi ko sinasabi na okay lang ‘yung nangyari, pero ang sinasabi ko ‘yung characterization sa kanya na ginamit [I’m not saying that it’s okay for things like this to happen, I’m just saying the characterization that it was used] for a campaign might be premature for us, for Comelec, to say,” he added.
