- President’s younger sister reacts to criticism on social media
- She calls on supporters to defend her from the online bashing
- She says she had to traverse three kilometers on foot to a campaign sortie
MANILA, Philippines – Following intense criticism over her use of a presidential chopper to attend a Liberal Party (LP) sortie in Cebu, TV host Kris Aquino called on supporters to defend her from the online bashing.
“Binubugbog daw ako sa social media. Sinasabi nila abusado ang pamilya Aquino. Pwede raw ba na ipagtanggol n’yo ako?” GMA News quoted her as telling attendees of an LP sortie in Hagonoy, Bulacan on Thursday, April 22.
[I’m being bashed on social media. They are saying the Aquino family is abusive. Can you defend me?]
Seeking to quieten critics who say she is abusing her privileges and using government property to engage in partisan politics, Aquino also revealed she had to walk three kilometers for an hour to the campaign site because of the traffic.
“Kaya po ako hinihingal. Kanina three kilometers ang nilakad ko para makarating dito dahil sa sobrang traffic,” she said. “Kasi sa totoo lang po, one hour na po ako naghihintay. Ang mga guards na kasama ko naloka na lang nang sinabi ko maglakad na tayo, dahil nakakahiyang paghintayin ang Hagonoy,” she said.
[That’s why I’m panting. I had to walk three kilometers here because of heavy traffic. Because in truth, I was already waiting for an hour. My guards who were with me were flabbergasted when I said we would just walk, because it’s embarrassing for us to make the people of Hagonoy wait.]
Malacañang Palace, Roxas, and the president have defended her use of the presidential chopper; saying family members are allowed to travel with the Chief Executive on official trips.
