- Davao City mayor responds to senator’s accusation he has secret P211M account
- He said it’s garbage, tells public not to believe Trillanes’ ‘garbage’
- He dared Trillanes to provide concrete evidence to his accusation
MANILA, Philippines – Responding to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s accusation he is keeping a secret bank account containing P211 million, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte asked the public not to believe the ‘garbage’ coming from a ‘dangerous’ man like the senator.
“I am not a rich man,” ABS-CBN quoted him as saying. “Huwag kayong maniwala diyan [Don’t believe that]. It’s pure garbage.”
“What I have is P200,000. Puro kabalastugan yan [That’s pure nonsense]. Trillanes, he is a dangerous man. Kita mo ang porma maglakad, akala mo kung sino ang buang [You see how he walks, you’d think he is crazy],” he added.
Addressing Trillanes directly, Duterte dared him to prove his claim by checking with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) where he supposedly keeps his account. However, he vowed he won’t make it easy for the senator.
“I signed a waiver yes, but I will make it hard for Trillanes. What he showed was only papers,” he said. “You prove it. I will not make it easy for you. I will not play into your hands.”
Trillanes earlier accused Duterte of keeping the account together with his daughter Sara at a BPI branch in Pasig City. He said the mayor did not declare it in his 2014 SALN.
“We are talking about somebody running for president who is pretending to be poor, but it turns out he is a fraud. He has to explain it,” the senator said, adding that he was willing to resign from the Senate if he is proven wrong.
“If I am wrong, I’m going to resign from the Senate,” he said.
