- Trillanes criticized Duterte for changing his words when cornered by facts
- The senator earlier accused Duterte of having an account containing over P200 million which was undeclared in the latter’s SALN
- Trillanes said Duterte changed his defense ‘four times’ in less than a week
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV strongly criticized the contradicting statements of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte whom he said cannot be trusted, given the latter’s alleged habit of changing his statements when cornered by facts.
In an article published by ABS-CBN, it mentioned that Trillanes said Duterte has contradicted himself several times over his alleged undeclared wealth.
Earlier, Trillanes made an accusation which pointed out that the leading presidential bet has a bank account that allegedly contains over P200 million which was undeclared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN).
Immediately after Trillanes made the allegation, Duterte’s camp denied that he had an account at the BPI branch on Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig City, with daughter Sara.
But after proof surfaced on social media showing that the joint account exists, Duterte himself suddenly admitted that he has several accounts with BPI.
However, the tough-talking mayor, denied having millions but instead insisted that two of these accounts only contain P50,000 and P17,000 each.
After issuing his statement of denial, Duterte again changed his statement and finally admitted he has around P200 million in bank deposits.
“There is money there in that account, a little lesser than P200 million,” Duterte was then quoted telling the reporters.
As such, Trillanes said that Duterte has changed his defense four times in less than a week.
The senator added that Duterte’s supposed inclination in changing his words are obvious proofs that he will never be a good president.
Furthermore, Trillanes also said that aside from Duterte’s accounts at the BPI Julia Vargas branch, the 71-year-old mayor has alleged accounts containing millions of pesos at the BPI Edsa Greenhills branch and Banco de Oro Unibank-1 in Davao City.
Trillanes noted these accounts received P2.407 billion in total deposits, from 2006 to 2015.
Meanwhile, Duterte has agreed to disclose his account at the BPI-Julia Vargas branch on May 2 to prove that he is not keeping undeclared wealth as claimed by Trillanes.
Trillanes, on the other hand, has vowed to impeach Rodrigo Duterte right immediately if the Davao City mayor wins the presidency in the upcoming polls.
