- The SWS denied that it conducted a presidential preference poll between April 20-23, 2016
- The polling firm said that results saying Duterte’s points decreased while Binay’s points increased are false
- The company reminded the public to rely only on the SWS website for official poll results
The Social Weather Station (SWS) has denied that PDP-Laban standard bearer and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, and United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) candidate and Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay have declined and risen in presidential surveys, respectively; dismissing the wrong information that went viral over text messages and the internet last week.
In an article published by GMA News Online on April 27, 2016, it was disclosed that the polling firm issued an official statement through their website; addressing the false rumors.
“Social Weather Stations hereby informs the public that it has not conducted any survey on voter preferences during the period of April 20-23, 2016, as stated in the SMS messages being passed around, reported in some radio programs, and posted in social media yesterday,” the statement read.
According to the false results, Duterte’s supporters allegedly decreased by six percent (27 percent), while Binay’s score increased by nine percent (23 percent) based on a presidential preference poll conducted between April 20 to 23, 2016 – just after the Davao City mayor expressed his controversial rape remarks.
In the same post, independent presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares tailed behind Duterte by only one percent (26 percent), while Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and People’s Reform Party candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago got 18 and 6 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the SWS said that based on the most recent presidential poll results, Duterte got 33 percent, Poe got 24, Roxas got 19, Binay got 14, and Santiago got 2; adding that undecided voters comprise 3 percent of the respondents.
The latest survey was conducted by the SWS in cooperation with Business World on April 18 to 20, 2016 among 1,800 registered voters; sporting a +2 percent margin of error.
“Everyone is reminded to rely only on the SWS website at http://www.sws.org.ph for its official media releases and public reports,” the polling agency said.
