MANILA- Ace Hardware Philippines issued a statement denying its involvement in a fistfight event that went viral on social media.
“We appreciate the excitement created by the April 15 ‘Suntukan sa Ace Hardware’ event that went viral on Facebook,” the statement said.
However, we do not encourage this type of digital publicity,” Ace Hardware added. The company explained they have not organized any event in SM City Lucena or any of its branches.
It is still unclear on how the fist fighting even started but it was created by a certain Mr. Balagbag:Tuberong kulay green with an NSFW name on his Facebook page.
In an article written by John Paulo Aguilera of FHM, the created event was only a “congregation of netizens who have all the time in the world.” It intended for a “patrician” humor which is a form of amusement that is between absurd and explicit at the same time.
Though it has no clear objective, the event triggered the curiosity and interest of many that 58,000 Facebook users confirmed their “attendance” while 38,000 users said they were “interested” to attend, said an article published in Inquirer.
Those who showed interest in the event did not hesitate to express their disappointment over Ace Hardware’s statement. The fist fighting event was supposedly scheduled to be held on April 15 at 3:00pm at the SM City Lucena. However, the event page has already been taken down from Facebook.
