• 4Ps beneficiaries are allegedly being asked to attend the rally of Mar Roxas in Luneta
• Bayan said they received information that 4Ps beneficiaries are threatened with P500 cut in their stipend if they fail to participate
• The accusation was denied by the spokesperson of Koalisyon ng Daang Matuwid
A group claimed that the Aquino administration is forcing the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the Aquino government’s flagship on anti-poverty program, to participate in the “Unity Walk” at the Luneta Park in support of Liberal Party (LP) bets Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo on Friday, April 15.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) said they received information that the 4Ps beneficiaries were threatened with P500 deduction in their monthly stipend if they fail to participate in the unity walk.
Aries Joseph Hegina of Inquirer said Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. issued a statement that read: “We have received information that CCT (conditional cash transfer)-4P’s members in Manila are being required to attend a ‘unity walk’ for Mar Roxas in Luneta tomorrow under the guise of the monthly Family Development Session of the 4P’s. The 4Ps members are being threatened with a P500 deduction from their monthly support should they fail to attend.”
Reyes accused the administration of using public funds for LP’s campaign.
“This is a shameless use of public funds for a partisan political activity. It is illegal and immoral at the same time. The CCT funds are not the campaign funds of the LP. They should not be used to promote the candidacy of individuals,” he said.
Akbayan Party-list Representative Ibarra Gutierrez III, spokesperson of Koalisyon ng Daang Matuwid, denied Bayan’s accusation and slammed Bayan for spewing false statements.
Guitierrez said Bayan, which is supporting the Poe-Escudero tandem in the coming elections, “have long been attempting to throw mud at the government and the Mar-Leni team to further the political agenda of their chosen candidates.”
