An old video of a foreign chorale singing a Visayan folk song unexpectedly went viral starting last Black Saturday after it was shared as a throwback video.
The Facebook video was uploaded by Larvey Ybanez Limbagan in 2013. It shows a chorale from the University of North Texas College of Music while performing the Visayan folk song “Rosas Pandan.” The video of the performance was originally uploaded in the university’s official YouTube page in December 2012.
A lot of people online commented on the post last Black Saturday and on the following days.
“It’s was a very amazing presentation of foreign countries rendered our Visayan Dialect songs. Sometimes we Visayans we never appreciates our songs, now that I have seen and heard how they performed. WOW! It was great and wonderful!” T. Thompson wrote.
“So nice to the ears especially listening to a very familiar Visayan song,” said E. Tabjan.
“Very impressive. I love this song and they sang it so well,” commented B. Stiles.
“Reminiscing the past! The high school life, the glee club family of Davao National High School,” said J. Rañises.
“I don’t know but I always feel proud being Filipino every time I hear foreigners sing Filipino songs most especially when our native songs are sang by a very good Chorale Group. Kudos to the one who coached the University of Texas College of Music Chorale,” expressed R. Victa.
As of posting, the video of “Rosas Pandan” already has 56K reactions and shared nearly 146,000 times.
The “Rosas Pandan” has also been covered by the choirs from South Korea, Russia, Austria, Brasil, Canada, and more. Choirs from around the globe have also covered other classics like “Dadansoy” and “Bayan Ko.”
