- A recreation of the RMS Titanic will set sail in 2018
- The “Titanic II” will look exactly like its forerunner but will have more safety features
- This is the brainchild of Australian businessman Clive Palmer
More than a century since the world-famous RMS Titanic sank, an Australian businessman wanted to relive its glory by constructing another Titanic set to sail in 2018.
Clive Palmer, the brains behind the “Titanic II” first announced his plans to recreate the infamous cruise ship in April 2012.
An article in the Mirror shared that the constructed Titanic II, looks exactly like its forerunner, except that it will be 13 feet wider than the original ship. Its length, height and weight will be the same, however. And like the Titanic, it will also have nine decks.
Another difference with the sunken ship is that Titanic II will have a helipad and more developed safety features; providing for a lifeboat for everyone that will be on board – a major mishap when the Titanic sank in 1912.
Its interiors will be faithful to how the original ship was designed. Mirror also said in its feature that it will have Turkish baths and an Edwardian gym like the Titanic. It will also have the grand staircase that was iconic in the 1997 film starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet.
The ship, which costs 400 to 500 million USD, will be able to accommodate 2,435 passengers and 900 crew members in its 840 cabins.
