- Producers have talked to Daisy Ridley about plans of becoming the next Lara Croft of the franchise ‘Tomb Raider’
- Ridley became popular after playing Rey in the highly-anticipated Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens
- Ridley, however, said that there are no official offers as yet
It has been more than a decade since Angelina Jolie popularized the archeologist-explorer Lara Croft in the big screen. Now there are talks of the 2-part film franchise’s reboot. But who will take on Angelina’s iconic role?
Rumor has it that it just might be Star Wars: The Force Awakens main star Daisy Ridley who played the Rey in the film’s most recent installment.
Ridley, for her part, confirmed that there were talks that the role will be given to her. However, there has not been any official offer.
“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it’,” the 23-year-old actress first told The Hollywood Reporter during the Empire Awards in London.
Being Rey of Star Wars VII was Ridley’s first ever cinematic stint but her stellar performance in the all-time favorite science-fiction-epic series has elevated her status in the Hollywood limelight.
Even her co-star John Boyega, who played Finn, believes Ridley is the one who’s perfect for the part.
“I played Tomb Raider the game; it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” he also said in the same Hollywood Reporter story.
“But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘This is you!’ and ‘You need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be,” he added.
Released in 2001, the very first film was titled Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which took home $ 247.7 million of sales worldwide. It was followed by 2003 Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which was also a major success.
