- Brother of incumbent Camiguin governor confirms family’s sabotage attempt against Duterte
- He said it was his brother who deliberately cut off the electricity of the rally venue
- He also said medical missions were conducted in five Camiguin towns to stop people from attending
MANILA, Philippines – Amid the harassment reported by the camp of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in their sortie in Camiguin, a member of the island province’s influential clan confirmed it was his family who were indeed behind the sabotage attempt.
In an interview video posted on Davao Breaking News, Noordin Efigenio Romualdo, a former mayor and vice mayor of the island’s capital town Mambajao who’s supporting Duterte’s candidacy, said members of his family led by his brother incumbent Camiguin governor Jurdin Jesus were trying to suppress people from supporting the Davao City mayor.
“One is they will not give permits and then also employees of the government, they don’t like to attend our meetings, our rallies because the employees are afraid,” Romualdo said.
Asked who was behind the the cut-off of the electricity and sound system of their rally venue, Romualdo pointed to his brother as the culprit.
“That’s why last night they cut the connection here for the sound system for this activity today,” he said.
Romualdo added his family — who are members of the Liberal Party — and their allies also conducted medical missions in the five towns of Camiguin in order to prevent people from attending the rally.
Such a plan, he said, was hatched in the house of his late father.
“They use it as now as their camp, (it’s now) the headquarters of the NPC (Nationalist People’s Coalition) and LP. They called all these barangay captains in the province of Camiguin. These LP candidates. They conducted a meeting last night to make a move so that no one will attend the rally of the coming president and who will be the president of the Republic of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte,” he said.
