- The President again scores the senator for his adamant stand on Martial Law
- He says young people can easily access info about the regime of Bongbong’s father
- He says he’s confident the youth will see Marcos’ true colors, will discard him in the end
MANILA, Philippines – Scoring Sen. Bongbong Marcos yet again for his continued refusal to apologize for his family’s excesses during the rule of his late father, President Benigno Aquino III said he is confident the youth will eventually realize his true colors and discard him.
In a media forum on Wednesday, March 30, Aquino said information pertaining to the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos’ regime are readily available to young people. Such easy access, he said, would allow the youth to discern for themselves whether Bongbong was really telling the truth or not.
“At the end of the day, especially for the younger generation of Filipinos, they have now access to various means to make them experience what life was like under our Martial Law period, which happened from 1972 to 1986. They will realize that this is not consistent with their vision or their aspirations of what their life should be,” GMA News quoted him as saying.
“And then they will answer, I believe the question in this manner: Should we allow an opportunity, even vague at this point in time, for somebody who does not recognize the mistakes of that past to be in a position to commit the same mistakes somewhere in the future? And, I think, the answer will be a resounding no,” he added.
The younger Marcos, while acknowledging the incidence of human rights abuses committed by his father’s administration, said the numbers of cases are miniscule and were never a part of state policy.
He has also pointed to the numerous infrastructure and programs set up by his father and asked whether he should apologize for them.
