MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has earmarked P68-M as budget for the purchase of spare parts for its AgustaWestland AW-109 “Power” attack helicopters acquired last year.
PAF spokesperson Col. Enrico Canaya said the spare parts is for future maintenance use even as he assured that the 8 attack helicopters are in the best working condition.
The AgustaWestland “AW-109” helicopters which are equipped with .50 caliber machine guns and 2.75-inch rockets was inducted into the Air Force fleet in August and December last year.
Canaya explained they have decided it will be best to bid the contracts for the supply of the spare parts ahead of the scheduled maintenance as the documentation is normally a long process.
“Whether the requirement is immediate or for later, we do the procurement as programmed. This is to make sure that our air assets are in top condition and in good shape,” Julio M. Aurelio of the Inquirer quoted Canaya as saying.
The contract has been divided into two projects for with a total budget of P68,928,376.55 as per the PAF’s available bid documents. One project costs P31,420,483.32, while the second has an approved budget of P37,507,893.33.
Interested bidders are requested to submit their documents for the two projects on or before March 31 at 9:00 am at the Air Force Procurement Center Conference Room, Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
Bid documents costs P25,000. Opening of bids will be on the same day
The eight units of AW-109 power helicopters were acquired from Anglo-Italian firm AgustaWestland for P3.4 billion in 2015.
Two more Augusta Westland AW159 multi-role aircraft will soon join the Philippine Navy’s fleet after the Department of National Defense (DND) announced early this year that its acquisition is in the final evaluation stage.
