- He hastily ran after a motorcycle rider who tried to get away after hitting a traffic enforcer
- He will be honored by the local government in Cainta where he lives
The Philippines never runs out of “good Samaritan” stories. Just a few days ago, a video surfaced online and went viral because it showed a man, who was previously riding his bicycle, bravely chase on foot an errant motorcycle rider who hit a female traffic enforcer. Now, he is set to be honored by the local government where he lives.
GMA News, in a story published Friday, March 11, said that the hero dubbed as “Bike Man” has been named. He is Jecenth Mateo; a 22-year-old construction worker in Taguig City.
Last March 9, GMA posted on Facebook a video of “Bike Man” which showed how he hastily jumped off his bike to run after the motorcycle driver who tried to get away upon hitting a woman – who tuned out to be a traffic enforcer Since posting, the video had gotten over 3.5 million views.
According to Mateo, he was en route to work when he chanced upon the incident. The errant rider, named Warren Ramos, was driving really fast and hit the female traffic officer named Annabelle Montiadora.
Mateo said he came late at work because of the incident but was happy to have helped Montiadora.
Meanwhile, Montiadora expressed gratitude to her hero when the GMA team reunited the two. “Thank you. ‘Yung ginawa mo ‘di basta-basta ginagawa ngayong panahon,” she said. [What you did is not a common act these days.]
Mateo, who lives in Cainta, will be awarded on Monday by the local government for the pride he gave to their people.
Jojo Valleno, Chief of the Municipal Safety Office said, “Kusang loob niya po na siya ay tumulong sa taong enforcer na iyon na tinulungan niya na ‘di naman niya kaano-ano.”
[He unselfishly helped the traffic enforcer despite not being related to her.]
