- Roxas’ son finally makes debut on the campaign trail
- He’s proud of his father and his forebears, says they were never accused of corruption while in service
- He said his father wants to give Filipinos the freedom to dream and freedom from fear and hunger
MANILA, Philippines – Finally making his debut on the campaign trail, Paolo Gerardo Roxas— the son of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas— pitched for his father during a political sortie in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The 22-year-old— the son of Roxas with former beauty queen Maricar Zaldarriaga— said he prides himself on his surname and family’s track record in government service.
According to the younger Roxas, his father once brought him to the graves of his great-grandfather the late President Manuel Roxas, grandfather the late Sen. Gerry Roxas and his uncle the late congressman Dinggoy Roxas and touted how they were never once accused of corruption during their years of service.
“Dad said he encountered temptations in politics himself but he resisted them because giving in to them meant letting down his grandfather, his father, his brother, and me,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying. “He told me that more than the name Roxas, I will inherit from him his integrity.”
“It explained why in his 22 years in public service, not once has he been accused of corruption,” the Yale University student added.
Pitching for his dad, Paolo said his father’s platforms will focus on three ‘freedoms’ for Filipinos: the freedom to dream through the promotion and development of the education sector, and freedom from fear and hunger by creating a reliable government and more local jobs.
“In the story of the straight path, Mar Roxas is not the star. It is you and your families because the programs of the straight path is (sic) for every Filipino family,” he said.
