- Bongbong Marcos says he would just let President Benigno Aquino III continue what he is doing
- Marcos said he will allow him to continue his tirade against him
- The vice presidential hopeful also said he will just focus on his campaign
Vice Presidential candidate and senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said he will just allow President Benigno Aquino III to continue his tirade against him over the martial law issue; adding that he will just focus on his campaign for the upcoming elections.
“Whatever he would like to do, that’s his prerogative as a citizen. Again, that’s not surprising. He has been consistent in his positions,” Marcos said, as quoted by APG of GMA News.
Marcos made the statement after Aquino slammed presidential candidate and senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago for choosing Marcos Jr. as her running mate. To note, Aquino said he doesn’t understand why Santiago, a trial court judge during martial law, chose to run with the son of the late dictator, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
“My response to that is that I will just continue to campaign. After all, lagi kong sinasabi ang tao ang maghuhusga [I always say that the people will be the ones to judge],” the candidate noted.
Moreover, Marcos told reporters that it’s better to ask Santiago regarding the remarks by Aquino.
“Mas maganda kung si Senator Miriam na lang ang tanungin ninyo. Mas nakakaalam siya paano sagutin ‘yan [It would be better to ask Senator Miriam herself. She knows better how to answer that question]. I do not want to pre-empt her on what she will say,” he stated.
It’s not the first time that Aquino publicly slammed Marcos Jr. In his speech during the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of EDSA People Power on Friday last week, Aquino criticized Marcos Jr. for the latter’s refusal to apologize for the abuses committed during martial law which was declared by the candidate’s father. During Martial Law, many activists were allegedly killed or abducted, while several others were allegedly raped or tortured.
But despite the negative propaganda thrown at him, Marcos still manages to smile each time and take things with a grain of salt.
