- The camp of Binay pointed out the vice president is also tied on top with Poe and Duterte in the latest Pulse Asia survey
- But Binay is also ‘statistically tied’ with Mar Roxas who is in 4th place if the margin of error were to be factored in
- Nevertheless, Binay’s camp acknowledged they need to work harder to regain whatever ratings the VP lost to his rivals
MANILA, Philippines – The camp of opposition bet Jejomar Binay has claimed the latest Pulse Asia survey result showed a three-way tie between the Senator Grace Poe, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and the Vice President himself.
The Pulse Asia poll commissioned by ABS-CBN and released on Tuesday, March 22 had Poe still the frontrunner with 26 percent. However, she is only 1 percentage point ahead of Duterte who got 25 percent. Binay came in third with 22 percent.
The poll had a bigger sampling size of 4,000 respondents and a smaller margin of error of +/- 1.5 percent, technically making Poe and Duterte ‘statistically tied’ on top.
But Binay’s spokesperson Rico Quicho pointed out the vice president is also ‘statistically tied’ with his two rivals on top.
“The presidential race continues to be tight. If you look at the margin of error, lahat ay [all of them are in a] statistical tie,” Inquirer’s Marc Jayson Cayabyab quoted Quicho as saying.
Quicho, nevertheless, acknowledged it would be a challenge for their group to work harder in reaching out to the people to regain whatever Binay lost in ratings. He also maintained the vice president continues to enjoy the support of the people as shown in the warm welcome they received during their campaign sorties.
“Hindi natitinag ang matibay na suporta at pagtitiwala ng mga core groups at supporters ni vice president at lalo pang magpupursigi ang mga ito upang palakasin ang kandidatura ni vice president,” said Quicho in a statement.
[The unwavering support and trust of our core groups and the vice president’s supporters remains intact and they will strive harder to further strengthen the candidacy of the vice president.]
Quicho stressed further that the thriving poverty among the people remains Binay’s strongest opponent and the people themselves will help the vice president in its fight against such a formidable enemy.
In the same survey, former Interior Secretary and Binay’s arch-nemesis Mar Roxas came in fourth place with 20 percent, which also made the latter ‘statistically tied’ with the vice president if the margin of error were to be factored in.
At the bottom is Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with 3 percent, a rating she has maintained over the past four months.
