- Anne Hathaway will be reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis in Princess Diaries 3
- Director Gary Marshall confirmed that he and Hathaway has talked about it
- Marshall also hinted the possibility that Chris Pine will reprise his role in the third film installment
Yes, you read that right. Princess Diaries is coming back for a third sequel – all complete with Princess Mia Thermopolis.
Director Gary Marshall, who created the first two franchises, confirmed that Anne Hathaway is coming on board for Princess Diaries 3.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do ‘Princess Diaries 3’ in Manhattan,”Marshall told PEOPLE.
Although he added, “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
Princess Diary (2001) and the sequel Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) were both a success that laid down a bright career for Hathaway. Since then she has starred in a string of major films such as The Devil Wears Prada, Bride Wars, Valentine’s Day, Alice in Wonderland, Love & Other Drugs, Les Miserables and Interstellar.
Princess Diaries was based on a book written by Meg Cabot in 2000. It is the story of a bullied school girl who turns out to be a Princess of the fictional European country of Genovia.
The original cast included legendary star Julie Andrews, most popular for her lead role in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins.
It is not certain, however, if the original cast would be reprising their roles except for Chris Pine who played Hathaway’s love interest in the second movie.
Asked if Pine will be in the film, Marshall answered, “Maybe. He’s quite big now, you know.”
