- Jenny Thomas has spent one and a half decade of her life searching for her biological mother
- Thomas never had a single idea that she had been sharing a staff room with her long lost mother
- Nita Valdez, Thomas’ birth mother, was forced to give up her daughter to social services because of the lack of support
ROCHESTER, New York – A woman who spent 15 years of her life looking for her mother was too stunned to discover she had worked with her mum and had no idea at all of their connection.
Sian Hewitt mentioned in her article for The Mirror published on March 4 that Jenny Thomas had spent one and a half decade of her life searching for her biological mother.
The longing daughter never had a single idea that she had been sharing a staff room with her long lost mother.
Thomas, 40 years of age, appeared in an American TLC series, Long Lost Family before finding out about her mother. The show helps reunite people with their biological relatives.
After a thorough investigation, Thomas was told that former co-worker Nita Valdez was her birth mother. The woman was left stunned after realizing she had met and actually worked with her mum 10 years earlier at a hospital.
The pair had spent hours working together when Thomas was employed as a part-time patient care technician. Without even knowing they were related, the two spoke daily and worked together during their time at the hospital.
“I was just in shock. I had looked in so many faces for so many years, thinking, ‘Could that be her? Is she looking at me because she knows me?’” Thomas said.
“All the while I had looked at the woman who once knew me as her daughter,” she added.
Valdez was the daughter of a minister who was ashamed after finding out she had become pregnant out of wedlock.
An article by Tanveer Mann for the Metro published on March 4 said that Valdez ended up being forced to give up her daughter to social services because of the lack of support she was getting from her family.
Although Thomas and Valdez had a friendly “working-professional relationship”, the daughter admitted she never felt any sort of instinctual connection to the woman.
However, although they didn’t have any extra special relationship, the daughter admits that her mother “always laughed at her jokes”.
