- The moment a massive black rhino attacks a car full of tourists was caught on camera
- The animal rams the side of the safari car as tourists cower in fear inside
- The rhinos are known to charge at anything they perceive as a threat
A video that is circulating on social media showed the terrifying moment a black rhinoceros attacks a vehicle full of tourists at a national park in Namibia in southwestern Africa.
The incredible incident was captured on camera by a tourist in another car who was filming the black rhino strolling around the grassland in Etosha National Park.
The video showed the massive animal notice the car parked on a dusty road a few yards from its grassland home. The rhino’s body language suggested that it was threatened by the presence of the safari car and suddenly broke into a sprint towards it.
Lowering its horned head, the rhino charged and rammed the side of the vehicle as a group of tourists cower in fear inside. The car swayed at the impact, but fortunately it remained upright.
Then, the rhino took several steps backwards and lunged forward in a threatening manner but it did not ram the car for a second time.
Alexandra Poier, the tourist who took the video, said: “I think the rhino saw a threat and that is why he attacked.”
She said she was relieved it did not attack their car, which was parked just a few feet away from the first car.
“To be honest, I was quite scared because it could have been our car. It happened very quickly and suddenly,” she said.
The tourists inside the assaulted vehicle were shaken but otherwise unhurt by the unexpected attack. They left in a hurry after the rhino walked away.
An Inquisitr article written by John Thomas Didymus said rhinos, noted for aggressiveness and ferocity, are not known to be very territorial animals, but it will charge at anything it perceives as a threat. Weighing an average of 3,000 lbs., they have the ability of charging anything unfamiliar at a speed of 35 miles per hour.
