MANILA – Students of the University of the Philippines have chosen who among the presidential candidates are their least favorite.
In a non-conventional polls, the UP Scintilla Juris and UP Astrum Scientis put up a ballot booth which housed each presidential candidates’ caricatures. The students were given an option to throw plates or water balloons (whichever they prefer) at the caricatures. The one who gets the most in terms of thrown balloons or plates automatically means he/she is the most disliked presidential candidate
Emmanuel Ventura, the project coordinator, said the booth is timely since the 2016 Election day is only a few months away and presidential candidates are constantly visible especially on mainstream media.
“Parating na ang elections at gusto namin makita ‘yung view ng UP students kung sino ayaw nila, in a fun and non-stressful way,” he explained. [Election day is nearing and we want to see who the UP students like the least — in a fun and non-stressful way.]
An Engineering graduate, John Bart Dumalag, said he found the booth interesting because it gave him the opportunity to show his frustrations over the candidate he dislikes the most, Katrina Ariaga wrote in an article for Inquirer.
It was Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas who led the ‘polls’ on February 13 followed by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte; while Senator Grace Poe had the least, a report by Politics.com said.
However, at around 10:02 pm, Duterte took over Roxas with the most number of throws. Poe, on the other hand, remained to have the least hits.
The Ballot Box polls went from February 9-13 during the UP Fair 2016 in UP-Diliman, Quezon City.
