The Philippine National Police (PNP) is hunting down the members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who killed two policemen during an ambush in the town of Candoni in Negros Occidental last week.
In an article written by Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo for Sun Star Manila, it was disclosed that the PNP has already staged an all-out offensive against the communist rebels who claimed the lives of PO1 Henry Vell Pacheco and PO1 Joe Harry Peralta on February 18.
According to Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, spokesperson of the PNP, the Police Regional Office in Negros Island has already coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to track down the suspects.
Mayor has also noted that the slain policemen had just finished assisting a stabbing victim in the same town when their group was stormed by the rebels.
“The two fallen agents of the law had just performed a routine police assistance function to a stabbing victim in Candoni, Negros Occidental when they themselves were treacherously attacked,” he said.
The NPA members have also injured at least five other persons during the ambush; including PO1 Jay Arroyo, PO1 Modesto Viña and three other civilians.
Meanwhile, the PNP has extended their sympathy to the bereaved families of the fallen cops and has assured them that the police force will be rendering funeral honors for the heroism and courage exemplified by the PO1 Pacheco and PO1 Peralta.
“We offer our deepest sympathy to the orphaned families and kin of two of our brothers-in-arms who are the latest victims of party-sponsored violence by the communist New People’s Army in Negros Island,” Mayor said.
