- Aquino urges the youth to learn and understand the history of the EDSA People Power Revolution
- Almost half of the voting populace belong to the youth sector
- The government also opened an ‘experiential museum’ for people to understand the essence of the revolution
President Benigno Aquino III addressed the youth during the 30th anniversary celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution to know and understand the history of the bloodless revolution that overthrew the dictator in 1986.
“The problems we face are our generation’s making. It is our generation that has to correct them. Your role is to prepare yourselves better to avoid making the same mistakes,” Aquino said; quoting his mother, the late President Corazon Aquino who was the key icon of EDSA.
“Nawa’y mag-ambagan tayong lahat, upang hindi na kailanman muling manaig ang kadiliman sa Pilipinas,” he was also quoted as saying in an InterAksyon report published February 25.

Aquino said the young generation must “stand firm” as there are entities loyal to the family of the late President Ferdinand Marcos who are working on the overturn of what really transpired in the past.
“These people want the public to believe that the country benefited from the dictatorship, calling the Martial Law years the golden days of the Philippines,” the report said; citing Aquino’s words.
Almost half of the voting population of the 2016 elections belong to the youth sector. Four out of 10 registered voters are aged 18 to 35, which means a large part of the electorate have no first-hand experience of the Martial Law.
To address this generational information gap, the government recently launched the “EDSA Experiential Museum.” The exhibit will be open for two days: February 25 and 26.
It has 8 “halls” that depicts the oppression that happened during the dark days of the Martial Law:
- The Hall of Restless Sleep
- The Hall of Hidden Truths
- The Hall of Orphans
- The Hall of the Lost
- Hall of Pain
- The Hall of Forgotten Martyrs
- The Hall of Awakening
- The Hall of Action
There are murals, sculptures, replicas of tanks and a clip showing Marcos’ declaration of the military rule.
