- Huffington Post shares 30 ‘powerful photos of love of all kinds’ from around the world
- One such photo came from the Philippines
- It shows an unidentified man rescuing puppies during heavy flooding in Marikina in 2012
A photo of a man rescuing puppies atop the roof of a house amid heavy flooding in Marikina back in 2012 has been chosen as one of Huffington Post’s “30 Powerful Photos Of Love Of All Kinds From Around The World.”
In an article written by Jessica Prois for HP published on February 11, the photo was selected along with dozens others – a collection of photos depicting “love during times of both strength and fragility; love amid both war and celebration; and the raw emotion behind both romantic and platonic love.”
In the heartwarming image, a man can be seen carrying puppies using a plastic container back into the house while other dogs looked down, waiting to be saved, too.
“A man carries puppies back inside their house as other dogs stay on the roof at a flooded area in Marikina City, east of Manila, Philippines, Wednesday Aug. 8, 2012,” read the image’s caption.
A cursory check on the internet revealed that the photo was contributed on Associated Press (AP) by one Aaron Favila.
The photo was taken during the heavy flooding in Marikina City in August 8, 2012.
It was the time when the fierce southwest monsoon (habagat) hit the country; bringing torrential rains, and eventually, heavy flooding, all over Metro Manila for more than a week.
The strong movement of the southwest monsoon then was attributed to the pull of Typhoon Saola (Gener), which despite not making landfall in the Philippines, had caused massive destruction brought by the flood.
The devastation has left 95 people dead, 8,428 homes destroyed and 6,706 damaged. The total damage was placed at more than P600-million across the nation.
Meanwhile, aside from the photo from the Philippines, the list also include one which shows a boy embracing his younger brother at the height of the migrant crisis in Europe, an Iraqi policeman holding a crying girl’s hand, US Pres. Barack Obama and Vice Pres. Joe Biden in a tight embrace, a couple kissing on the street during a Vancouver riot and an Afghan man sharing a tea with an American soldier.
“Love seen through a lens captures how powerful small moments of humanity truly are,” Huffington Post said.
