- Boxer quotes Bible verses on his social media accounts anew
- Verses say the Bible’s message is offensive to those who won’t listen to it
- Post has gone viral, with many supporting and praising Pacquiao for his conviction
MANILA, Philippines – With the controversy over his remarks on same-sex marriage winding down, boxer Manny Pacquiao’s name is again gaining steam after he posted biblical verses indicating the “offensiveness” of the Bible to those who do not want to listen to its message.
On his Facebook and Instagram, Pacquiao quoted Corinthians 1:18 and Colossians 3:5-10 in his post which not only describes the “foolishness” of those who won’t listen but also calls on people to reform themselves:
“The Bible is offensive to those who are offended by its message. Corinthians 1:18. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Colossians 3:5-10. [5] Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. [6] Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. [7] You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. [8] But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. [9] Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices [10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. God bless everyone.”
Pacquiao’s newest post received an overwhelming positive response from those who read it; with many praising him for sticking up for his faith despite the backlash his comments on same-sex marriage generated.
At the same time, some also reminded the boxer it’s not good to judge — with a few others chiding him for using biblical verses to spread bigotry against gay people.
