- National Historical Commission of the Philippines slams Madonna for wearing PH flag
- Madonna uses the flag as costume during her concert at the CCP
- NHCP will look into the possibility of banning her from performing in PH again
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) slammed Madonna for using the Philippine flag as her costume during her Rebel Heart concert in Manila.
In an article published on ANC, it was disclosed that the NHCP has said that they will look into the possibility of banning the Queen of Pop from performing again in the country; for violation of the Republic Act 8491, section 34 which prohibits the wearing of the Filipino flag as costume.
In a production number, Madonna was seen draping herself with the Philippine flag, which even touched the floor as she danced onstage.
Furthermore, the NHCP said local organizers may face penalties from P5,000 to P20,000 and one-year imprisonment; while foreign organizers may face deportation or a lifetime ban in the country for the blatant display of disrespect for the Philippine flag.
Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman who achieved popularity by pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in her music videos, which became a fixture on MTV, according to Wikipedia. She popularized the songs Like a Virgin, Into the Groove, Papa Don’t Preach, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Frozen, Music, Hung Up, and 4 Minutes.
Also, the pop singer sold more than 300 million records around the world, and was named by the Guinness World Record as the best-selling female recording artist of all-time. In addition, she was ranked at number two — behind The Beatles — on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, which made her the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart.
The Rebel Heart concert is one which Filipino fans have long awaited for; ever since she scored a string of dance hits in the 1980s. Apparently, the most expensive ticket for the contest is worth more than P57,000.
