MIYAZAKI, JAPAN – Love can move mountains and sometimes make thousands of flowers bloom.
In Shintomi Town in Miyazaki Prefecture in Japan, an elderly Japanese man planted thousands of flowers for two years to cheer his depressed blind wife.
Now, the private dairy farm is visited by thousands of tourists from all around the world not only for the multitude of blooming pink flowers called shibazakura, or moss phlox, but also for the love story behind them.
According to an article written by Oona McGee of Rocket News, Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki lived a simple, quiet and happy life as dairy farmers in rural Japan; raising two lovely children.
They moved to their dairy farm as a young couple in 1956 and raised several milking cows with the dream that upon retirement they would travel together around Japan.
However, their happy life was disrupted when tragedy came knocking at their doors. Mrs. Kuroki suddenly lost her sight due to complications from diabetes. Thinking that she will not able to fulfill their dream of sightseeing around Japan, she soon became depressed and started living in seclusion in their family home.
Her husband struggled to think of a way to make his wife regain her usual cheerful self and help her come out of seclusion.
One day, Mr. Kuroki saw a pink shibazakura flower in the garden and realized that the beauty of flowers can be experienced not only through sight but through the sense of smell as well. He thought that if he were to create a garden filled with flowers, his wife could still enjoy them, and people might also come to visit, which would bring a smile to her face again.
In an article posted on Bored Panda, it was mentioned that Mr. Kuroki spent two years of hard work to plant and grow thousands of flower-bearing plants.
Sure enough, people came visiting and Mrs. Kuroki slowly came out of her seclusion.
A decade after, this spectacle of love is a sight to behold for thousands of visitors who want to see for themselves how beautiful a true testament of love really is.
