- GrabJeep starts giving free trips for passengers along EDSA
- The jeep is equipped with an air-conditioning system and WiFi services
- The free service will be available for one month
Transport network vehicle service (TNVS) Grab has started giving premium jeepney rides in its new service aptly called “GrabJeep.”
On Friday, February 19, the revamped and air-conditioned version of the regular jeepney started rolling out in the main highway of EDSA.
GrabJeep picks up passenger at SM North EDSA and will be traversing Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It will also make stops to pick up passengers in other Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations: Magallanes, Ayala, Buendia, Guadalupe, Boni, Shaw, Megamall, Ortigas, Santolan and Araneta.
The premium jeepney is installed with a Wifi connection. This makes several passengers neglect time spent in traffic.
“At least ‘di mo nalalaman na traffic sa EDSA or naiinip ka habang nag-iintay ka [you don’t notice that time flies when it is traffic along EDSA or while you are waiting],” passenger Jam Marcelino told ABS-CBN in a man-on-the-street interview.
For now, the service is free for all patrons. They are encouraged, however, to give donations.
According to a Grab staff, the service does not intend to compete with regular jeepneys.
“Nag-ko-collect kami ng donation para ipagpagawa dun sa jeep na gusto nang i-pull out ng government. Kung magdodonate tayo, masmaganda.”
[We are collecting donations to help fund the repair of jeepneys the government wants to phase out. It would be better if we donate.]
Grab has not cleared out whether or not the service will be a part of its organic line but for now, the free rides will be available for one month.
