- Manny Piñol shares pictures of gov’t vehicles allegedly being used by LP for campaigning
- One picture shows a dump truck carrying LP banners in Zamboanga del Norte
- Another shows gov’t buses which reportedly carried LP supporters and members in Dipolog City
- Piñol calls on Comelec and Ombudsman to do something about the misuse of gov’t vehicles
MANILA, Philippines – First there was the pick-up, now there’s this.
With anger over the Liberal Party’s alleged use of government vehicles as part of its campaign machinery growing, former North Cotabato governor Manny Piñol shared more pictures of what appeared to be the same thing on his Facebook page.
According to Piñol, the pictures were captured by concerned citizens outraged with the blatant misuse of government property for partisan activities.
“From Zamboanga del Norte, a netizen sent in photos of mini-dumptrucks loaded with yellow campaign materials and Dipolog City government buses which were reportedly used during the arrival of Liberal Party standard bearer Manuel Roxas III in Dipolog City,” he wrote.
A picture showing the dumptruck even shows the name of Zamboanga del Norte Second District Rep. Rosendo “Dodoy” Labadlabad—a known member of the LP in his area.
Expecting more chicanery, Piñol called on the Commission on Elections and the Ombudsman to do something to stop these illicit activities.
“We urge both the Commission on Elections and the Office of the Ombudsman to act on these reports to restore our people’s trust in our government,” he said.
Earlier, LP spokesman Barry Gutierrez denied they authorized their people to use the pick-up with a red license plate and said they will conduct a probe on the matter.
“The Daang Matuwid coalition has not authorized, and will not condone such practice. We are currently looking into this matter to get the full story, and we will take the appropriate action once all the facts are in hand,” he said.
