- Former child star Jiro Manio went back to rehab after falling “chronically ill”
- The actor was set for a television comeback in an episode of Magpakailanman
- Those close to Jiro said that he did not go back to his old vices but needed special care
Former child star Jiro Manio, who was recently due for a comeback after his career lay dormant for years, has gone back to a rehabilitation center after suffering from conditions that made him “chronically ill.”
This was confirmed by Sancho dela Alas, the son of actress Ai-Ai delas Alas, who took Jiro under her wing after the former child star was found roaming the halls of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) visibly confused.
Jiro, who played Ai-Ai’s son in the movie Ang Tanging Ina, was previously reported to have gone in and out rehabilitation for drug addiction since becoming inactive in showbiz.
Through Ai-Ai’s intervention, the actor was set to return to acting on television by starring in an episode of Magpakailanman.
However, things have apparently turned out for the worse.
“Chronically ill na po si Jiro, e. Kumbaga, hindi na po ito yung… hindi na po siya yung dahil sa drug abuse whatsoever. Kumbaga, hindi na po talaga siya maka-recover. [Jiro is now chronically ill. In other words, it is no longer because of drug abuse or whatsoever. He just really can’t recover anymore],” Sancho explained to GMA News.
Sancho, however, clarified that the actor did not return to his old ways but had to be brought under the special care of the rehabilitation center, which had taken particular attention to Jiro’s case.
“Hindi naman po sa bumalik sa bisyo, pero… hindi na po kasi siya stable, e. Dun po siya natututukan tsaka dun po nag-start yung recovery niya. So feeling po ni Mama, dun din po yung pinaka-best na ibalik po siya for now. [He did not go back to his vices but… he isn’t stable anymore. He was given special care at the rehabilitation center and that was where he started his recovery. So Mama Ai-Ai felt that it was best to bring him back there for now],” he said.
Jiro was in the middle of acting workshops for his comeback episode in Magpakailanman.
Sancho confirmed reports that Jiro had difficulties expressing different emotions during the acting workshops and had exhibited strange ticks and behaviors.
Nonetheless, given the latest turn of events, Sancho and his family are still hoping for Jiro’s full recovery.
“Naaawa po kasi parang sayang, e. A lot of people naniniwala sa kanya and kahit kami, parang… sana man lang, makabalik siya. Bata pa po kasi si Jiro, e. Kaya sana malagyan niya ng direksyon yung buhay niya kasi iyon nga po, may anak din po siya. [We really fell sorry for him. A lot of people believe in him, including us… we hope that he would at least be able to come back. Jiro is still very young. So I hope he would be able to put his life in the right direction because he also has a kid],” Sancho added.
