- Arguelles said that the Queen of Pop’s songs are blasphemous, and all of the songs she will perform in the concert is centered on insulting God
MANILA, Philippines – A Catholic archbishop voiced out his concern over the upcoming Madonna concert in Manila saying it is an indirect attack of the evil.
Keith A. Calayag mentioned in his article for Sun Star published on February 23 that Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles is asking the public, most especially the youth, not to watch international pop star Madonna’s two-night concert in Manila.
The archbishop said the Queen of Pop’s songs are blasphemous, and all of the songs she will perform in the concert is centered on insulting God.
“I admonish all the faithful to beware that subtle attack of the evil one,” Arguelles said.
“Before it was Lady Gaga. Now it is Madonna! Why is Catholic Philippines the favorite venue for blasphemy against God and the Holy Mother?” said Arguelles who also voiced out against the concert of Lady Gaga before.
An article by Leslie Ann Aquino for the Manila Bulletin published on February 23 said that one of Madonna’s controversial songs called “Holy Water” will be featured in her concert dubbed as “Rebel Heart.” Madonna and her female dancers were dressed like nuns performing with three cross-shaped stripper poles.
Reports said Roman Catholics in some countries have shown their outrage at the song, saying it is a “disrespectful use of Catholic and other Christian symbols.”
Aside from calling it a blasphemy, Arguelles also said that Madonna is too liberated and is not a good example to the Filipino youth, as mentioned by Anne Fernandez for her report in Interaksyon published on February 23.
“Let us pray for our country that the devil will not succeed to draw anyone from this Pueblo Amante de Maria (a people in love with Mary) to his evil ways,” Arguelles said.
The archbishop also prayed that Jesus will save the Philippines from this “ideological colonization”.
However, Arguelles said the decision to still watch the concert despite its negative messages about faith and Catholicism still lies on the public.
Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” concert will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on February 24 and 25.
