NEW YORK CTY – 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach shared her thoughts on the first presidential debate through the use of Twitter.
The 26-year-old queen of beauty did not let distance and the difference of time zones prevent her from witnessing and participating in a historic event.
“I’m so glad I woke up for this #PiliPinasDebates2016,” she posted.
According to an article published by Rappler, Wurtzbach woke up early in the morning in New York City to tune into the first presidential debate for the 2016 elections, and in a series of tweets she shared her thoughts on the presidential debate. However, she did not reveal her choice among the candidates because of her commitment to maintain neutrality.
An article on Inquirer mentioned that Wurtzbach compared the debate to the difficult Miss Universe question and answer portion and said that answering a question under time pressure is no joke.
“I never thought watching the Philippine presidential elections could be so exciting. Parang Q&A lang, may time limit pa,” Wurtzbach said. “Ang hirap sumagot ah. Di biro yan [It’s hard to give an answer. It’s no joke.]”
Moreover, Wurtzbach encouraged people on social media to join in the discussions, while maintaining her impartiality. She said that she must remain neutral and cannot reveal her choice among the candidates, given her position of influence.
“I am not leaning towards any candidate so as not to influence anybody,” she tweeted.
In a story written by Cess Dimalanta published by Manila Bulletin, Wurtzbach was delighted to know that a lot of women and youth were engaged in active discussion regarding the debate.
“Mas maraming babae kaysa sa lalaki ang aktibo sa diskusyon. At maraming kabataan. Ang galing!! ? Ganyan dapat. Involved lahat,” she said.
[There were more women than men who actively participated in the discussion. And more youths too. That’s great! Everyone was involved.]
She expressed her disapproval of death penalty; saying that “criminals are not afraid of death, they are afraid to be caught.”
She as well responded to a tweet questioning her why she is scared, considering that she is not in the country. She replied that the heckler should consider asking the same to all the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) around the world.
Furthermore, Wurtzbach said that the debate is good for the country because it encourages people to think. She also said she is proud of the event and hopes that it enlightens the Filipino people.
“What I like about most about this debate is that it gets people thinking. Exactly what the people need so they can decide for themselves,” she said.
“I’m so proud! I hope this enlightened many of our countrymen. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!,”she concluded.
