- The raid is part of the PNP’s “One-Time, Big Time” anti-drug campaign
- One of the fatalities is believed to be a member of the Joseph Rivas criminal gang
At least two suspected drug dealers were killed while 18 others were arrested by elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bulacan on Saturday in line with the organization’s thrust to eradicate the illegal use of drugs in the province.
In an article written by Jess Malabanan for InterAksyon on February 28, it was disclosed that the Bulacan Provincial Police Office (BPPO) has intensified its “One-Time, Big Time” campaign against drug users and pushers by conducting a series of raids in different municipalities.
“This will be a continuous operation aimed at clearing communities of the illegal drugs infestation,” said Senior Supt. Tim Pacleb; officer-in-charge of the BPPO.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin, director of the PNP in Central Luzon, has identified one of the fatalities as Jiji Abalos, who is believed to be a member of the Joseph Rivas criminal gang.
Abalos was killed in a gunfight between government operatives and gang members in the bid of the latter to evade arrest and to take away 48 sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and three packets of dried cannabis (marijuana) leaves – which were eventually seized by police authorities to serve as evidence against the group.
On Monday, another suspect identified as Ruben Yapan was also killed by BPPO operatives after he fired at police officers who tried to arrest him.
The PNP was able to recover from Yapan a caliber .38 revolver with live ammunitions, nine plastic sachets of shabu, and three plastic sachets of marijuana.
A week prior to the series of raids in Bulacan, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has also partnered with the PNP in destructing P11.6-million worth of marijuana in the town of Santol, La Union, wherein plantation sites that post a combined land area of 7,182 square meters were destroyed.
According to PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr., the anti-drug agency was able to destroy at least 49,600 fully-grown marijuana plants, 41,600 marijuana seedlings and 700 grams of dried marijuana stalks in 16 different sites in La Union.
