Actor-turned-politician and current Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez was identified by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Eastern Visayas as being involved in the drug group led by the recently slain Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
He was named together with the following officials, Baybay Vice-Mayor Mike Cari, Leyte Rep. Vicente “Ching” Veloso, and Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla, when Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III asked Chief Insp. Leo Laraga of CIDG Region 8 for the explanation behind the search warrants against Espinosa during the senate hearings today, November 10, 2016.
Senator Miguel Zubiri then raised his concern abuot Gomez’s alleged involvement in the drug group.
“Hindi ko naririnig pangalan ni Mayor Richard Gomez ever in any social media circle. Dapat ma-klaro ‘yan sir kasi mahirap naman ito. This is aired live. Ayaw naman natin masira pangalan niya,” the senator said.
Laraga clarified that the CIDG does not have any copy of Espinosa’s affidavit but he said he can recall Albuera Police Head Chief Insp. Jovie Espinido mention Gomez and other officials during a case conference.
