Amanda and Andrew Hanson were excited parents. Their firstborn son Klayton’s birthday on April 6 of 2013 was a big day for the family. Despite being past the due date and induced, Amanda’s delivery was expected to go normally. However, nobody expected things to turn out as bad as it did for the couple when they got nothing from Klayton but utter silence. Immediately, Amanda knew something was wrong.
The room was quickly flocked by doctors who were attempting to revive little Klayton. They succeeded, but unfortunately it did not last long. It’s hard to imagine the dread that Amanda felt when her son was quickly whisked away and brought to a neonatal unit in the hopes of being saved. It was a dreadful day for the couple and Sarah Ledford, a hired photographer who was there to witness what was supposed to be a blissful day for the family.
Ledford admitted how immersed she was in the situation, along with the family Dr. Bryan Hodges, who was unable to help himself when he broke down along with the family after the huge loss.
However, no one expected that something great was in store for the Hanson family when, after three months, a miracle came – a rainbow after their storm.
Amanda and Andrew were both ecstatic and terrified upon knowing that she was carrying a rainbow child- a baby following a miscarriage. It was thrilling for them, but the fear of possibly losing another child was unbearable.
After 10 months, Ledford was once again on the delivery room to capture the magnificent birth of the couple’s rainbow baby, Karson.
Baby Karson lived up to his name as he truly was the family’s rainbow. His healthy birth and the sounds of him crying brought tears to everyone’s eyes. It was in that moment when Ledford captured the amazing photo of Dr. Hodges and the father, Andrew, hugging with tears in their eyes.
The photo quickly went viral as it captured almost every emotion that was felt during the heartwarming moment.
