• A Quezon City councilor tested positive for illegal drugs use
• The councilor, whose identity was not disclosed, believes the result of the test conducted by the DOH was erroneous
• The councilor requested another drug test in a different laboratory
One of 36 Quezon City councilors tested positive for illegal drugs use, City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte disclosed on Saturday, August 5.
According to GMA News Online, Vice Mayor Belmonte declined to name the councilor; one of the 37 city officials who underwent drug testing including herself.
“Out of 37 na nagpa-test including myself, there was one positive result,” Belmonte said.
“I am not at liberty to disclose the name of the councilor, but when told privately of the result, the councilor questioned the validity of the test result,” she added.
Belmonte said the councilor, who believes that the result of the Department of Health (DOH) laboratory drug test was erroneous, requested to undergo another drug test in a different laboratory.
The surprised drug test was done at the DOH laboratory at the East Avenue Medical Center on Monday, August 1; the result of which will be forwarded to the City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
“First thing on Monday (August 8) I will send the positive result from my city council to the mayor, already for his action,” Belmonte said.
Meanwhile, actor and Eat Bulaga co-host Anjo Yllana, a councilor of Quezon City’s Fifth district, expressed his willingness to also undergo a drug test. He was not present during the unannounced drug test.
“I think he was not feeling well last week and was absent from our session which was the day we had our surprise test,” Belmonte said; adding that all other employees of the legislative department also underwent drug tests.
