“If you do not take care of the workers, then I cannot take care of you.”
These were the words of President Rodrigo Duterte as he lamented that many employers seemed to be inconsiderate in following labor policies, an article published by Coconuts Manila stated.
Earlier, the tough-talking President expressed his views on contractualization further threatening to shut down any company that will not comply with labor laws.
“Huwag na ninyo akong hintayin na mahuli ko kayo because I will be unforgiving. You will not only lose your money, you will lose your pants. No tolerance ako dito,” Pres. Duterte was quoted saying.
[“Don’t wait for me to catch you because I will be unforgiving. You will not only lose your money, you will lose your pants. I have no tolerance for this.”]
Expressing disgust, the President cited the plight of “security guards who are allegedly forced to work for 24 hours by security agencies.”
He noted that the security guards render 24 hours service each day when they are only supposed to render only eight hours duty. The President added most of the owners of security agencies are military men.
In addition, Pres. Duterte stressed these former military official should know better stating further that companies should be obligated to provide their employees with the standard benefits.
On the other hand, Duterte encouraged contractual employees to report labor law violations using the national emergency hotline 911 and citizen complaint hotline number 8888.
