Since Uber was launched in the Philippines, its good reputation have been upheld providing many of us the comfort knowing that we are safe from other abusive drivers. In addition, nothing could beat the convenience it brought that is available in a matter of few clicks.
However according to reports, Uber is now facing controversy as a driver allegedly violated his female passenger during their trip to Katipunan. An unnamed 22 year old passenger alighted a red Toyota Vios Uber vehicle, with a plate number ARA 3101. Xstian Karlou John Marie, the alleged driver of the said vehicle picked up the female passenger and negotiated to board the ride and pay afterwards instead.
While on the ride, Marie and the passenger lightly conversed until Marie asked her to sit in front beside him saying: “dito ka sa harapan lingon kasi ko ng lingon sa’yo eh!”
She complied, which she probably soon regretted afterwards after the driver grabbed her private part and forced her to do the same and even more. Due to fear of the probabilities of the man pulling out a knife or a gun, she unwillingly did so.
“First and foremost our thoughts are with the rider and her family. We immediately removed the driver from the Uber platform when we learned of the reported incident and are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation and stand ready to assist them in every way we can,” Uber said in a statement.
A hearing between the parties involved and LTFRB have been scheduled this coming August 10.
