An eastern mourning dove built a nest on a police car in Ohio where it stayed for about a week — thanks to the kind-hearted cops.
In an article written by James Gould-Bourn of Bored Panda, it was disclosed that cops in Parma have discovered an eastern mourning dove had turned one of their backup patrol cars into a nesting place. The City of Parma disclosed that the mourning dove created the nest at the base of the windshield on a police car. There were two eggs in the nest.
Instead of getting irritated with what the bird has done on the police vehicle, the cops started doing things to make it more comfortable.
“Our officers are human beings just like anyone else. We care for all lives human and animal so the officers took a carrier to this bird, which they nicknamed Gerty, is taken care of and can take care of her young in the cruiser,” Lt. Kevin Riley of the Parma Police Department reportedly said.
A Warm Deviation
Other than simply leaving Gerty and her nest as is, the cops had attached an umbrella to the windshield and taped off the parking spot so nobody would bother her, as can be seen in a photo shared by City of Parma on their Facebook page. Then realizing that the Gerty was probably hungry, the cops even dug up a bunch of worms to keep the expectant mom well nourished. Heartwarming, isn’t it?
And guess what? The dove stayed at the car for about a week!
Meanwhile, the authorities have clarified that the bird did not prevent the police from busting bad guys or protecting people. It was noted that the police car is a back-up cruiser that is not used every day so technically, no operation was disrupted.
