The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced that the average retail electricity rate for the month of June will be P0.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) lower than last month, as there is enough energy available from suppliers to keep generation costs down.

Meralco said the electricity bill of a typical household consuming 200 kWh per month would go down this month by 13 centavos per kWh to P8.32 per kWh, as per an article published by Inquirer.
“This translates to a reduction of around PhP25 in their electricity bill. The reduction is due to the downward movement in the generation charge, which more than offset a higher transmission charge,” Meralco said
The decrease in overall rate is due to a drop in the generation charge, at P3.72 per kWh which is P0.161 per kWh lower than last month, the lowest since October 2004, as per an article published by Interaksyon.

Taxes and other charges also went down following the reduction in generation charge.
Depending on actual consumption, the lower costs will translate to typical billing in the following ranges: For households with consumption up to 200kWh per month will see a reduction of P25.47, A total of P38.21 reduction for 300kWh, P50.95 and P63.69 for household consumption of 400kWh and 500kWh, respectively.
According to Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, electricity rates normally decreases with the onset of the rainy season: “We are hoping that the rates will be flat over the next couple of months toward September, the start of cooler weather and the so-called ‘ber’ months.”
