MANILA, Philippines – To prepare himself for his bigger duties and responsibilities as a senator, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao attended a 9-day crash course on governance which began on Wednesday, June 8, in General Santos City.
According to an article published by Rappler, the Executive Coaching Program, which is conducted by the Philippine Public Safety College, Asian Institute of Management, Development Academy of the Philippines, and Ateneo School of Government, includes social graces, protocols, and parliamentary procedures in the Senate, as well as discussions related to key national issues such as the Conditional Cash Transfer Program, health, education, economy, disaster response, foreign policy, Freedom of Information bill and the West Philippine Sea.
Pacquiao and his Senate staff will go through a workshop near the end of their session.
They believe that the information from the program would be vital in advancing Pacquiao’s legislative agenda.
Pacquiao retired from boxing after his third face-off with Timothy Bradley last April because he wants to focus on his political career. He said there are lots of things he still needs to know about legislation and he needs to focus on the things he needs to do in the next six years as a senator.
Before taking office as a congressman back in 2010, Pacquiao also attended a crash course on governance at the University of the Philippines.
