Manila, Philippines – It’s six months for both the “Punisher and the “Rock”.
Emulating President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s promise, incoming Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said he would willingly step down from his post should he fail in his campaign against crime and illegal drugs after six months.
“I am ready to face the consequences after six months if I am not able to do what I am supposed to do,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying. “I’ve said before that I’ll surrender. I’ll tell my superior ‘Please replace me sir. I failed you and the people.’”
Dela Rosa added he would step down without fanfare since he is not like other officials who would do everything just to keep their posts.
“I am not like other officials who stick to their posts like geckos,” he said. “I have a sense of propriety.”
According to Dela Rosa, he will base his success or failure through crime statistics and the public pulse. He said he will step down if the figures don’t improve or if the public feels he has not done enough.
“If you think that I am a failure, then I will step down,” he said.
Earlier, Dela Rosa shrugged off reports of drug lords raising the bounty on his head and Duterte’s to P50 million and said he was ready to fight them anytime.
He also said he won’t be intimidated by his upperclassmen from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) who may also be involved in illegal activities.
