- Anonymous Philippines said it would refrain from hacking gov’t websites
- The ceasefire will be until the new proclamation of the new president
- It said if ever any cheating happens during the election, the group would not be a part of it
Anonymous Philippines will stop hacking government websites until the new president is proclaimed after the elections on May 9.
In an article written by NB of GMA News, it was disclosed that a group’s spokesman said there would be no hacking of government websites until the canvassing of votes is completed.
So if ever any cheating happened during the election process, Anonymous Philippines said they would not be part of it.
Nothing wrong with hacking websites
Meanwhile, the group urged the government to free the suspected hackers in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); asking why don’t the government recruit Mr. Biteng and the others instead of arresting them.
“Instead putting him jail, why not recruit him and other hackers who have skills to protect and to breach the system! We are the ones who have shown concern and have defended cybersecurity in our country without asking for even one peso, yet you are bent on stopping and arresting us,” read the banner carried by the group members who protested at the Department of Justice.
Anonymous Philippines said it had been warning the Commission on Elections since 2013 about the weak security of the Comelec website; pointing out that the group sees nothing wrong with hacking government websites to show the weakness of their security.
“This is just our way of proving the government has neglected the data of every Filipino,” one of the members noted.
“We see that in the Philippines, the corrupt never get jailed, but we jail a very young fresh IT (information technology) graduate who is known in Facebook for being a security expert. Where is the justice? We at Anonymous are watching,” he said.
