- Another anti-Duterte ad is being circulated online
- Like the first controversial TV advert aired on ABS-CBN, it also featured children
- However, the second clip showed the kids cursing and doing the dirty finger, making it worse than the first
MANILA, Philippines – Following the controversy over the airing of the anti-Duterte political advert featuring children’s reaction to some of the tough-talking mayor’s headline-hogging remarks on various issues, another similar video has started spreading online.
The 43-seconder clip was uploaded on April 28 on the Facebook page Politikang Ina Mo. Like the now-infamous advert, it also featured young kids imitating disturbing actions in some of Duterte’s past interviews such as cursing the pope, threatening to kill someone, as well as doing the dirty finger.
It also showed scenes depicting abuse of women and uncontrolled rage on the road, with children being exposed to such unsettling behaviors by adults.
The video was titled “Children see. Children do.” and carries the message: “Children will become what you are. So be what you want them to be.”
“Children imitate our leaders. Let’s save our children from this one,” read its closing message.
It is not clear who put up the video but its similarities to the controversial TV ad allegedly paid for by Senator Antonio Trillanes are very apparent.
Meanwhile, after drawing flak for airing the anti-Duterte political ad, the ABS-CBN Network defended its action against criticisms on social media.
In a statement, ABS-CBN said they are duty-bound to air a ‘legitimate ad’ citing the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) guidelines that prohibits radio and television stations from discriminating against any candidate or political party in the sale of air time.
“By airing the said commercial, ABS-CBN is being consistent with COMELEC guidelines, which prohibit radio or television stations to discriminate in the sale of air time against any political party or candidate. We are duty bound to air a legitimate ad,” the statement read.
In response to the controversy, Duterte spokesperson Peter Tiu Laviña urged netizens to boycott the Kapamilya network on Friday, May 6, in support of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
