MANILA- Manny Pacquiao, who is sure to have a seat in the senate, has several bills lined up to file once he starts working as a lawmaker in the Upper House.
Pacquiao said in an interview by Rean Hacosta of ABS-CBN that one of the bills he will push for is free education from elementary to college for those who cannot afford it.
“Yung pino-propose natin na libreng education from elementary to college sa mga pamilya na hindi talaga makapag-paaral—dapat may ganoon. Para walang dahilan ang mga bata na hindi makapag-aral,” he explained. [Our proposal to have a free elementary to college education for families who cannot afford it—we must have that. So there will be no reason for the children not to finish school.]
The retired boxer mentioned he will also focus on salary increase of workers and employees. He added he wants a fast solution to poverty.
Pacquiao was largely criticized for his prolonged absences as a representative of Sarangani but has managed to obtain 15,592,240 votes according to the partial and unofficial results from the Comelec Transparency Server. He said he plans to be more active in the Senate.
In Tricia Aquino’s article published in InterAksyon in October 2015, Pacquiao included in his priority bills the end to abuses experienced by overseas Filipino workers. He added he wants to launch a comprehensive assistance framework for Filipinos working abroad.
Peace in Mindanao was another problem he wants to be resolved while he planned to provide incentives and subsidies for farmers and putting a stop to the smuggling of agricultural products. Finally, he said he would push for a sports development reform program to provide chance for skilled children to develop their chosen sports.
