Yes, Kapamilya’s ‘I Love OPM’, a Filipino reality music competition show on ABS-CBN network hosted by Anne Curtis and Eric Nicolas, is now down to its last 12 contestants.
Since its first episode on February 13, the reality show has entertained televiewers with the performance of its Touristars – the name given to the foreigner contestants who shared their passion in singing original Tagalog songs.
The audition phase determined the 24 contestants to “pass through Gate 1” or qualify to the next round. On the second round, creatively termed as ‘Gate 2’, the 24 contestants who qualified the audition phase was grouped into 4 to compete against each other. Only two contestants per group were able to advance to the next round; leaving only 12 to pass through ‘Gate 3’ – the next round to the competition.
And to complete the top 12 Touristars, last Sunday’s winners – J-Morning and Mathew May – join the 10 contestants who were able to bump off other participants in the round 2.
J-Morning, who already has a following in the Philippines for their OPM covers, received 95 points for their energetic performance of Donna Cruz’s “Kapag Tumibok ang Puso” which automatically bumped off India’s Addy Raj with an average score of 86.
One of the judges, dubbed as Himigration Officer Lani Misalucha went wow with the group’s performance; saying: “”Para sa akin, wow! Tapos ‘yung kinanta nila, parang ginawa nilang sarili nilang kanta.” [For me, it’s a wow! They made the song like it’s their own song.”]
Matthew May, on the other hand, performed After Image’s “Habang May Buhay” and got an average score of 89.7 points.
On a special twist, Sumner Mahaffey was selected to have another chance to make it to the Gate 3; on one condition — that he needs to get a score higher than May. But unfortunately, he only got 89.3 points. May then got the 12th spot and moved on to the next round.
The Gate 3 of the competition opens Saturday, April 2, After Maalaala Mo Kaya. Watch for it!
