- Robredo is slowly catching up with rivals Escudero and Marcos
- Her ratings continue its upward trend and is only 4 points behind the frontrunners
- Escudero and Marcos remains on top, both with 25%
MANILA, Philippines – Tight is the word to describe the gripping race to the vice presidency with less than six weeks before the national election in May.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey released on Friday, April 1, the result showed Camarines Sur Rep. and Liberal Party (LP) bet Leni Robredo within striking distance of the frontrunners Senators Francis Escudero and Bongbong Marcos.
While Escudero and Marcos remain tied on top with 25% ratings apiece, Robredo continues her steady climb with 22% percent; up from last month’s 21%.
Escudero gained a point after losing the lead to Marcos in the March 8-13 survey while the latter’s numbers were unchanged. Robredo’s ratings however is a significant leap from the February survey’s 18%.
On the Facebook page supporting her bid, Leni was quoted as saying that she was elated with the result as only 4 points separates her from rivals Escudero and Marcos.
“Masayang-masaya ako dahil apat na puntos na lang iyong ihahabol ko sa kanila. 40 days before the elections, four points na lang ang mahahabol kaya inspired tayo at hopeful na magiging maganda ang resulta,” Robredo said.
[I’m happy because there is only 4 points between us. 40 days before the election, all I need is 4 points to catch up so I’m inspired and hopeful that the results will be favorable.]
Meanwhile, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano remains in fourth place with 14% followed by Senator Gringo Honasan with 5 % and, lastly, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 4 %.
By geographical areas, Robredo was most preferred vice presidential candidate in the Visayas with 34%. She also got 23 % among Class E, second only to Escudero’s 25%.
On the other hand, Marcos is most popular among respondents from NCR (41%) and Balance of Luzon (32%), while Cayetano is the top choice in Mindanao (28%).
Marcos also reigns among Classes ABC (35%) and D (27%).
The survey was commissioned by ABS-CBN Network and was conducted from March 15 to 20 among 4,000 respondents nationwide.
The respondents were asked the question: “If the coming May 2016 election were held today, whom would you vote for as VICE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES?”
