- Roach is still hoping for a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch
- He says the fighters’ big spending will be a huge factor in a possible rematch
- “They’re both spenders. Sometimes those spenders have to fight again.” – Roach
Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach is still hoping that his longtime ward Manny Pacquiao will have another shot against retired pound-for-pound king Floy Mayweather Jr.
Boxing Scene quoted him as saying: “I certainly hope so. I would love for Manny to fight him one more time, 100 percent healthy, which is definitely is right now. I would love to see that, yes.”
He noted that although the two boxing icons spend their money differently, they are still big spenders and this would be an important factor if they decide to fight each other again in the future.
“Manny’s a generous person and gives a lot of money away to his countrymen. And buys poor people houses and builds churches and builds school and does good things with it. Mayweather buys things, a lot of cars and a lot of houses for himself it seems like. They’re both spenders. Sometimes those spenders have to fight again,” he explained.
A Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch is still out of sight since the Filipino boxer announced he will retire after his third face-off against Timothy Bradley and Mayweather retired last year after defeating Andre Berto.
Mayweather himself said he doesn’t want to hear Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch talks anymore.
Speaking to Fight Hype, the retired pound-for-pound king said: “I don’t want to hear this anymore, Floyd Mayweather-Pacquiao. That’s over with. That chapter is over with. That’s totally over with. I don’t want to hear nothing else about Mayweather-Pacquiao. That’s not going to ever happen again. That will never happen again. Never. Out of 12 rounds and I win 10 out of 12 rounds, why should I have to prove myself? Blowout!”
To show off just how much he enjoys his retired life, Mayweather displayed his piles of cash, Miami beach mansion, and sports cars on Instagram and Twitter last March and was seen wearing his $ 2-million watch as he cruised around Los Angeles with a caravan of four high-priced cars, including the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, which he revealed cost him almost $ 5 million.
Market Watch quoted him as telling TMZ: “I keep about four or five toys in L.A. I got a high-rise in L.A. And I got a mansion in L.A., I’m loving the retired life. Still making seven figures a month for the rest of my life. Smart investments. I’ve made some smart moves. It’s not really bragging if you got it.”
