- Manny Pacquiao makes light of attempted attack outside a Japanese restaurant
- He says he surrendered his life to God and he doesn’t have the right to hate others
- He joked that the attacker was actually his fan
Manny Pacquiao was nearly assaulted outside a Japanese restaurant in Hollywood on Sunday, April 3 (Monday, April 4 in Manila), but he chose to laugh off the incident.
According to reports, a man appeared from behind and attempted to hit the “Pambansang Kamao” as he was about to board his car parked at the back door parking lot of the Kabuki Japanese Restaurant.
Fortunately, Pacquiao’s security was able to hold the man off and pull him away
He instructed his security not to hurt the man and let him go.
According to an article published by ABS-CBN News Pacquiao said it’s okay; emphasizing that when he surrendered his life to God, he doesn’t have the right to condemn or to hate others and to put a grievance in his heart,
He even made light of the situation and said the man was actually his fan.
He said: “Wala, tinatawagan lang niya ang pangalan ko. Wrong pronunciation lang.”
[No, he was just calling my name. It’s just a wrong pronunciation.]
According to an article published by Spin.ph, David Sison, Pacquiao’s personal assistant admitted that they expected such incidents to happen in the US after Pacquiao’s controversial statement against same-sex marriage last February; noting that the man also shouted “You homophobic” at the Filipino boxing icon.
“We’ve expected it all along. I was actually surprised that it happened only once,” he said.
It’s been almost two months since Pacquiao earned the ire of the LGBT ((lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community when he said in an interview that same-sex couples are worse than animals and he had already apologized if he had hurt people because of his statement.
