- The classic OPM song Bakit ‘Di Totohanin was used by American drama series Vampire Diaries
- The song was popularized by Filipino artist Carol Banawa
- It first debuted in 1997 as the soundtrack of a movie with the same title
A classic Filipino love song popularized by actress and singer Carol Banawa has made its way to the hit American drama series Vampire Diaries.
The song Bakit ‘Di Totohanin, which was first released under Banawa’s debut album in 1997 and used as the official soundtrack of a movie with the same title starring Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual, was featured in the 16th episode of the supernatural drama’s seventh season.
It was used as a background in a scene wherein Valerie and Stefan, played by Elizabeth Blackmoore and Paul Wesley, were having a rather romantic conversation.
In response to having her show featured in the program, Banawa posted on her official Instagram account how thankful she is to the show.
“They have aired it already! [The Vampire Dairies] used my song in one of the scenes for the episode 716. It was a scene between Stefan and Valerie. They used [Bakit ‘Di Totohanin]. I am in disbelief right now but very grateful! Will be watching it tonight!” she wrote.
She also thanked the show’s crew, particularly the music supervisor, Chris Mollere, and the director of this particular episode, Ian Somerhalder, who is also part of the cast of the series.
Interestingly, Somerhalder has visited the Philippines and promoted the show in Manila. During his visit in 2012, the actor and director said he fell in love with the country’s beauty.
“You’re incredibly lucky. I wasn’t aware that there were 7,000 beautiful islands in this country. When you look at it on a map, you can’t quite grasp exactly what you’re gonna see,” he once said, as quoted by GMA News.
Meanwhile, one commenter with username Suncameout clarified via a post comment that: “sa scene na to, nasa Philippines si Stefan kasi hina-hunt down siya ng isang vampire huntress kaya nag travel siya sa buong mundo. Kunyare nasa Philippines daw sla, thus the song.” [in the scene, Stefan is supposedly in the country because he is being hunted down by a vampire huntress, so he had to travel around the world. They’re supposedly in the Philippines; thus, the song.]
